Yes, I do vaguely remember that my mother, more than once, in conversations with whoever that was, mentioned that the United States is the greatest country. Knowing my mother, this makes sense for her to say, but anyway, it seems odd that I never hear the end of this point reverberating all over the place. And why is no one worried about these wicked Italian fascists being so defensive about having lost World War II and why are they blustering about how they are planning to win the long game and reverse that eventually? How is that something that I need to chat about in the high school classroom? I don't see why that is a point of concern at this time.

Which Reminds Me
Which Reminds Me
Yes, I have completely forgotten who was that yapping about the breeding and raising of thoroughbreds, which upon first hearing I might have thought was a reference to horses. However, upon reflection, I must confess that I am not a thorough student of Thoreau, so such a point would go right past me unnoticed and unremarked. Thoreau, wasn't he the hermit of Walden Pond? Being such a famous American writer and poet, he probably did have some good lines, which can easily be said without ever reading his works, but somehow I doubt that his works alone could quite constitute an entire philosophy of life. One might as easily be found looping around the circle of life in a plodding and pseudo-pagan way without ever getting much, if Thoreau were the only gauge of progress. He speaks of "Arabian drugs," but does not specify whether that would be coffee or something else. You like to boast of your New England weaponry, but much as we liked what New England used to be in another time, even New England would bend the knee in the day of final reckoning, whenever that happens, I cannot say when. No man knows the day nor the hour. God is merciful and slow to anger, so it is hard to say when that would happen.

Which Reminds Me
Yes, I would only be guessing, without having heard anything said actually, about their connection to the French Canadian singer of Vegas fame, of whom I know nothing. I nave no connection whatever to Vegas so do not know anything about that. If these tacky French-Canadians are so proud of their whatever, let them shout it for all to here because, anyway, that was not my problem. I have no reason to be telegraphing to Quebec and/or to Ottawa. There are those who think of doing that and there are those who are actually doing that perhspas, and there is a difference, but I feel no urgent need to comment on these drearily twisted French-Canadian points. I would only be lying if I said something about those nights in Montreal.
Which Reminds Me
Yes, given that I am not at this time auditioning for any upcoming production of "Cats" the musical, I do not feel any urgent need to telegraph to New York such lines in advance of whatever happens next. I just have no idea. I trust that God will work things out eventually, I am not sure how that will happen.

Which Reminds Me
Yes, during high school there was a time when I would keep a diary, until my little sister found it and read it and laughed about everything I said in it, such as "I got up this morning," or whatever I said, it really didn't matter, after which it became apparent that I really cannot risk keeping a diary that might be read and become the joke of the day. Better to just let the ordinary moments of life drift along unremarked.
Which Reminds Me
Yes, speaking of candles, how high is your PDQ ratio? Mine is not very high. There is a certain shock value when you first hear that, and then later, after you really think about that, you just never want to listen to that stuff ever again. What were you thinking? But my sister was a big fan of PDQ from her high school days so you could always ask her why do we have to sing that again in college? I really don't need that. I will be just fine without them. This is a bit too complicated to discuss with the functionally illiterate choir director.

Which Reminds Me
Yes, why is no one singing the second verse of that hymn?
Waft it on the rolling tide:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Tell to sinners far and wide:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Sing, you islands of the sea;
Echo back, you ocean caves;
Earth shall keep her jubilee:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
For some reason everyone seems to be skipping from the first to the third verse, skipping over the second verse, and I really don't know why that is happening, just off the top of my head.
Only thing I could think would be that maybe it does not explain which island.
The lyrics of the song, "Jesus Saves," were written by Priscilla Jane
Owens (1829-1907) of Baltimore, Maryland, who wrote a
number of hymns and songs for children's services at church.
