Yes, I vaguely remember during high school going to the United States Embassy to file an application for my Social Security card. Many years later, working in California I learned that the first three digits are code for a certain region for administrative purposes of the embassy, because there was a Mexican guy working there who had the same code, as was noticed by the people who do that, but what passport and other paperwork he had I cannot remember. He got his somewhere in southern Mexico, I forget which city he said. Ha ha ha! And it would seem sort of rude of me to ask more than I would really want to know. A card was a card that I needed to use for applying to colleges. Nothing illegal about that.
