Yes, it is hard to not be impressed by the undying loyalty of David Goatley from New Zealand, to his patroness Dawn of the Canadians. They and a few others belong to the Plymouth Brethren sect. However, our teacher Mrs. Richardson belonged to the Grace Brethren, a slightly different offshoot of the Plymouth Brethren. Dawn was explaining to me how they interpret differently a verse from the New Testament, by which they believe that a woman should never cut her hair, so that the tips of Dawn's hair are from her babyhood. After they marry they wrap their hair on their heads in a bun in a certain way. The widowed Mrs. Richardson once showed us how her hair when undone sweeps the floor. Amazing how she can still stand on her head in her 50s. So that was interesting. Yes, I probably seemed like a wild thing compared to their extreme conservatism, but neither did I want to go such extremes as to be counted as one of them, because then later in other circles I would be ridiculed as too conservative. So either way I cannot win this game.
