Yes, we noticed that Jemima Calkins (1708-1778) was a daughter of Samuel Hugh Calkins (1663-1755) who had 7-10 children depending on how you count that. People had large families back then. Jemima married Caleb Curtis and had about a dozen children of her own, including Jemima Curtis (1730-1784), who married David Elmer. However, it was Jemima's brother Stephen Calkins (1706-1781) who was our direct ancestor. Stephen and Jemima and their 5-6 other siblings were great-grandchildren of Hugh Calkins (1603-1690), who arrived in America in 1638, and grandchildren of John Calkins. Interestingly, Hugh's birthplace of Waverton in England is a 15-minute drive from Dodleston of "Vertical Plane" fame, not that it matters. We already ran through the various derivations of the name from horseshoe attachments and so forth, so hopefully you can just have those references on file in case.
