Which Reminds Me

Yes, I remember hearing about how Salvadorans are the 'guanacos,' possibly a reference to llama-type critters that live in the Southern Cone of South America, they kick and bite if you get too close to them, and Hondurans are the 'catrachos,' although the etymology of that term is somewhat of a mystery to me. I haven't really studied that very deeply. When you are hearing that at age 9 or 10 you just take that at face value because, yes, it probably is much more complicated than just a simple soccer game, but that was only one week of war, the Soccer War, that we lived through, sitting on the balcony in the evenings listening to the battery-powered shortwave radio reports because, anyway, there is nothing else to do. At 6 p.m. the electricity was turned off for the night so the city was very dark at night and martial law meant you had better not be thinking of going anywhere outside of your house.
