Yes, it does seem somewhat overwrought, this idea of yours to prosecute John Steinbeck for being a consummate liar and con artist, merely for committing the crime of writing a lurid and tawdry novel, inexplicably honored by that Swedish panel of ignoramuses. Whatever. Why can't we just dump Steinbeck in the "Fiction" box and forget about his nonsense? He just was not that special to us in the universal scheme of things.
