Which Reminds Me

Yes, you would think that Bessie May Hamilton (1878-1917) would be happy to be the wife of the extremely wealthy Mr. Alexander Melville Hamilton (1878-1932), son of the famous Mr. Robert Dollar (1844-1932), whose shipping company operated numerous passenger ships all over the world. And yet, in her passport application of 1917, she lists her husband as "John H." How could that happen? John Harold, Alexander's younger brother, was married to Agnes Barr. How can you not know the name of your own husband? What mindless clerk typed out your passport application which you signed without having read it? Is that what happened? Oddly, she died of smallpox three months later.
